Out for the Cash

Inexplicably, this version of "Out for the Cash" is only available on the Japanese release of DJ Honda's extremely underrated mid-90s rap curio H. The American release drops the twilight wistfulness for rote mid-90s banger material & different verses, & while its a cast of my favorite middleweight rappers from the era (no I'm not gonna make a Fat Joe joke here), it just doesn't have the same magic.

The video, though, is great, and really captures something so uniquely New York about this period in rap history.

Im wasted
lookin' for my stash I forgot where I placed it
shit, it's so close i can almost taste it,
smell it, inhale it, i can feel it
its natural for the Psycho to bring real shit

Next party, Studio Discoteca, 8.1.09

As usual, contact me for info, guest list & location.

If you aren't familiar with headliner Lono Brazil (& you should be), you can investigate his work more here and here. You can also read an image scan of the TimeOut Chicago feature on Lono Brazil here.

"A Chicago native and New York resident, Lono Brazil has been living in Los Angeles for the last 10 years and working as a Radio Show Host(KPFK 90.7 FM), DJ/Producer/Remixer. First off, my review of Alchemist's new record was published today at Pitchfork.

Party on Saturday went really well ... thanks to everyone who came out & danced til 4AM "til the cops came knocking" (per Maxwell). We'll be doing another one very soon, and this time the headliner is gonna be a pretty amazing DJ, so hit me up if you're in Chicago & interested in dancing the nite away....

Also special thanks to Max Read of Disco Horror who I approached to write some notes on the mix Brett & I put together. I think they came out very nicely. Read the full piece after the jump:
